DALIA 5th Consortium Meeting

Strengthening Collaboration and Practical Action in Žilina, Slovakia

From April 8th to 10th 2025 the 5th Consortium Meeting took place in Žilina Slovakia, under the organization of People and Water. The conference brought together experts and stakeholders of the Danube region to convey progressive work and enhance networking through practical environmental action programs.

The DPS4 pilot site in Svrčinovec became the first stop for consortium participants during the meeting as the forest manager led insightful discussions about water retention measures that improve ecosystems and reduce potential flooding risks. The group toured Kysucký Lieskovec – Kováčové to observe implemented water retention tactics at this site.

The local mayor welcomed the project team with kindness and demonstrated his endorsement of how the project would benefit the community. The local presence added cultural charm when a traditional Slovak singing group of Slovak presented the visitors with traditional performances, homemade snacks, and a unique taste of borovička (juniper brandy).

Consortium members gathered at Žilina’s Hotel Slovakia to conduct technical discussions about work package progress which brought alignment to plans for the upcoming project phase.
The meeting ended with a visit to Horný Hričov Village where a waterway has been built as a flood protection against torrential rains in 2007 – 2009.

The gathering was a major milestone for DALIA because it propelled the consortium to enhance its dedication to establishing sustainable land practices across the Danube area.
